Insomnia, depression and anxiety are among the effects of the Covid19 vaccines, claim the latest anti-vaccine theories, also promoted in Romania.
Self-diagnosis and the psychiatric "expertise" of the family
NEWS: “Many people who were previously healthy are sicker than ever, and the cause, many say, are the ‘vaccines’ against the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19). [...] One "fully vaccinated" person who can't even do his job anymore is Dr. Patrick William Slater, a 60-year-old neurologist from Texas. Before the experimental serum inoculation Operation Warp Speed, Slater was very active, training full-time in Austin, fishing and hiking in his spare time, but today he can no longer do these activities. In October 2021, Slater suddenly developed cerebellar ataxia, a disease that affects the ability to move. All of a sudden, he could no longer eat by himself or go to the toilet without help. [...] Since the end of 2020, when the COVID-19 vaccines were launched at the speed of light, doctors everywhere have seen steady increases in unusual psychiatric illnesses.
For example, psychiatrist Dr. Amanda McDonald, quoted by the Epoch Times, said she has personally observed many of her own patients develop unstable cases of mental illness, such as panic attacks and hallucinations. [...] Also, Dr. Diane Counce, a neurologist and neuroradiologist, said she has noticed the same in her patients. “People also talk about how their personality has changed. [The family] says "they're just different". Nurse practitioner Scott Marsland also says that anxiety, depression and insomnia are now among the most common symptoms she sees. Although there is no definitive research to 100% link the Covid shots to these symptoms, the timing of their sudden onset corresponds perfectly with when the vaccination campaign was started. Researchers at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and District Hospital have written in a case report of similar symptoms they observed in patients, stating that they "indicate that adverse psychiatric events may be vaccine-related."
NARRATIVE: The global increase in unusual mental illnesses is caused by Covid19 vaccines.
CONTEXT: Since the beginning of the Covid19 pandemic, a series of false narratives have appeared in Romania regarding the nature and origin of the SARS-CoV2 virus, the measures taken to combat its spread, or the effectiveness and effects of vaccination. Among the promoters of these false narratives are conspiracy theorists, radical Orthodox, sovereigntists, Euro-skeptics and anti-Westerners. False narratives regarding the pandemic and vaccines have many sources. One of them is Russia, which aims to destabilize Western societies; another is China, whose main goal is to divert attention from how it initially approached the pandemic and from the fact that SARS-CoV-2 appeared on its territory. At the same time, however, Western publications and "influencers", usually from the area of the radical right and conspiracists, are also sources of disinformation. False narratives are picked up and spread by other "influencers", by publications around the world or on social media. There are several categories sensitive to such narratives and misinformation – corona skeptics, anti-vaxxers, people who do not trust the authorities, etc. Genuine anti-vaccine movements have emerged in numerous countries, heavily influenced by some of these narratives, which they take up, internalize, and amplify.
In Romania, the spearhead in the fight against vaccines is the site activenews.ro, which, over time, has sought to validate its anti-vaccine theories through pseudo-experts, anonymous websites or by falsely quoting various studies. Veridica has already debunked several fake news and disinformation regarding the Covid19 vaccines, which are not effective and have serious adverse reactions , causing testicular cancer or myocarditis , and leading to their premature death of the immunized.
PURPOSE: To undermine the trust of the population in the authorities, to provoke and amplify social tension, to demonize the West, to promote the antivaxxer culture and validate their own conspiracy theories.
Vaccination reduces the risk of depression
WHY THE NARRATIVE IS FALSE: In general, major crises, regardless of their nature (economic, sanitary, climatic, political, etc.) cause the affected population not only material damage, but also real psychological problems, both individually and collectively. In the last four years, humanity has faced several major events, starting with the Covid19 pandemic and continuing with the war in Ukraine or the recent conflict in Israel and Gaza Strip , and their psychological impact on the population has led to an increase in the number of cases of depression and anxiety disorders diagnosed by doctors, by over 25% worldwide, according to World Health Organization statistics. But even without these crises, statistics say that depression is the most common disease in the developed world and the second cause of disability worldwide. At the end of the last decade, specialists were even talking about a depression pandemic (PanDepression) caused by the political and economic crisis. Official data show that one person in four suffers from mental health issues at least once in their life, and a much larger number of people are affected indirectly.
As a result, several studies conducted by psychologists and psychiatrists have tried to determine whether there is any connection between the recent explosion of mental illness cases and the Covid19 vaccination, and the results have shown the exact opposite, namely that vaccination is a safe measure both for the physical and mental health of the population. According to studies, people vaccinated against Covid-19 experienced a 4% drop in psychological distress , and depression and anxiety are not among the potential adverse effects of vaccines. Also, the studies say that the few cases of psychiatric manifestations following the vaccination against Covid19 reported in the specialized literature are due to the lack of education and the anguish it generates, having no physiological connection with the vaccine itself.
In fact, the hypothesis of psychotic episodes starting out of the blue, following the anti-Covid19 vaccination, is canceled even by one of the doctors quoted in the analyzed article, who says that the manifestations were observed in already existing patients, who had experienced depression and anxiety before: “When the pandemic hit, I already had an existing patient population that I knew very well. What we saw were manifestations in that patient population."
Regarding cerebellar ataxia, the association with the Covid19 vaccines has absolutely no scientific support, as this degenerative disease, which is manifested by the loss of balance and the decrease in the ability to coordinate the movements of the limbs, is caused by other pre-existing autoimmune, metabolic or neurodegenerative diseases, brain tumors, strokes, multiple sclerosis, meningitis, hypothyroidism or head trauma, infections, vitamin deficiencies, sedative or chemotherapy treatments, ingestion of heavy metals (lead, mercury), chronic alcohol consumption and even hereditary or genetic causes.
