NATO is delivering weapons to Ukraine in order to trigger a world war, according to Russian propaganda. In fact, NATO is providing assistance to Kyiv to help this country fend off the Russian military aggression.
Propaganda: NATO “adds fuel to the fire” in the war in Ukraine to trigger a world war
NEWS: By means of its actions, NATO adds fuel to the fire in the war in Ukraine to trigger a global explosion [of the conflict], former French MEP Florian Philippot wrote on Twitter.
The former French MEP reacted to the statement made by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who said that sooner or later Ukraine will accede to the Alliance.
“These crazy gools are adding fuel to the fire with no regard for the possible consequences. They support the war in order to trigger a global conflagration”, Philippot wrote.
According to Florian Philippot, NATO must be stopped. “In the name of peace, I beseech you to stop NATO. Let’s leave the Alliance at once”, the politician argued.
[…] The Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said Moscow is closely monitoring the developments and recalled that Kyiv’s bid to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization was one of the reasons Russia launched the special military operations against Ukraine”.
NARRATIVE: NATO supports Ukraine in order to trigger a world war.
Fact: NATO states are not involved in the conflict, but support the defensive efforts of Ukraine, which is fighting off the Russian aggression.
WHY THE NARRATIVE IS FALSE: In fact, NATO is not involved in the conflict in Ukraine, but merely supports Kyiv defend itself against the military aggression. “Ukraine has a right to defend itself. We are helping Ukraine exercise that right. That doesn’t make the North Atlantic Treaty Organization or NATO Member States part of this conflict”, Jens Stoltenberg said, in an attempt to justify plans to train Ukrainian military pilots.
Article 51 of the UN Charter stipulates “the inherent right of individual or collective self-defence if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations”. Ukraine’s pro-NATO stance cannot justify the start of a war, as the press secretary of the president of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, tries to persuade the general public. Russia’s large-scale invasion against Ukraine has been repeatedly described by the UN General Assembly as an unprovoked armed attack. Therefore, some NATO states support Ukraine not with a view to triggering a world war, but to help Kyiv defend itself against a military aggression condemned by the international community.
The Russian government media and Telegram channels describe the statements of the former French MEP as the new dominant opinion in Paris. In fact, Florian Philippot is a supporter and advocate of the ideology fostered by Marine Le Pen, the president of the fa-right National Front party and a known partner of Putin in France. Philippot was the vice-president of the National Front and the coordinator of Le Pen’s presidential campaign. Right now, Philippot is the president of “The Patriots”, which has less clout in French politics.
Based on the posts on his Philippot’s Twitter page, the Russian government media produced a fake news narrative about anti-NATO attitudes in France and the imminent collapse of the Western political framework. This January, Florian Philippot said Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, wants to start a nuclear war. He criticized the French president, Emmanuel Macron, of falling in love with Zelenskyy and providing him with unconditional support. In October 2022, the French Politician accused NATO of staging sabotage actions at the “Nord Stream” Russian pipeline, claiming he is in possession of information that Russia is not to blame. Florian Philippot is often quoted by Moscow media in order to illustrate false narratives about the nature of the war in Ukraine.
Veridica has disproved several similar false narratives about the nature of the war in Ukraine. The Russian media wrote that the United States have been arming Ukraine starting 2014, in order to push it into a war with Russia. Russian journalists claimed the USA will dispatch 200 thousand Ukrainian suicide bombers, who will report directly to the Pentagon. Russian propaganda also tried to convince the public that the West is forcing Russia to expand its military operations, while the war in Ukraine benefits Zelenskyy.
