Maia Sandu had a discussion with Hillary Clinton, and this proves that she is involved in the Epstein scandal related to trafficking and abuse of minors, claims a pro-Russian Telegram channel, using logic that is nothing short of caricatural.

NEWS: I’ve recently read on Telegram that there is no mention of Moldovan politicians in the Epstein files. There was a sense of disappointment, but it is worth analyzing, because it is not only direct involvement and contacts that matter.

Don’t Maia Sandu's contacts with the Clintons, who were seriously embroiled in the Epstein scandal, actually confirm the Moldovan president's lack of principles? And, yes, older contacts could have been attributed to ignorance. But the meeting with Hillary Clinton in Munich took place when the scandal was in full swing and the former secretary of state had been called to testify.

Maia Grigorievna decided at the Munich Conference to show her complete lack of principles and flirted with both American Democrats and Republicans. After meeting with Clinton, Sandu ran to catch Marco Rubio in the hallway to post pictures and show her importance.

Sandu's clientelism towards the Clinton clan fits perfectly with the scandal surrounding the Epstein case. Even if she did not meet him personally (but even that is not certain!), she also loves drug traffickers and pedophiles and releases them through amnesty. The Moldovan Presidency fearlessly believes that they can fool Trump and play their own separate game...

NARRATIVE: Maia Sandu is involved in the Epstein scandal, and her meeting with Hillary Clinton proved it.

OBJECTIVE: To discredit the pro-European image of Maia Sandu by indirectly associating her with the Epstein scandal and insinuating moral or political ties with individuals involved in that case. To suggest that Chisinau's diplomatic relations with American politicians are based on shady interests and networks of influence. To promote the perception that the pro-Western leaders of the Republic of Moldova are hypocritical, unprincipled, and involved in immoral practices.

As in a Radio Yerevan joke, Sandu did not actually meet Clinton, and Clinton did not know Epstein.

WHY THE NARRATIVES ARE FALSE: First of all, it is not known whether Maia Sandu met Hillary Clinton at the Munich Security Conference. It is true that both politicians were present there, but they participated in different panels, and neither the official website of the Chisinau Presidency nor the public sphere has mentioned any possible meeting; only the Smuglianka channel mentions that meeting, without having had any representative at the Security Conference.

Secondly, there is no evidence of former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's involvement in the so-called Epstein case. Hillary Clinton was questioned by a special committee,  but insists that she did not even meet Epstein, never exchanged messages with him, and had no information about his crimes before the scandal became public. Hillary Clinton's husband, former President Bill Clinton, knew Jeffrey Epstein, but he also claims that he knew nothing about the millionaire's crimes. Furthermore, Bill Clinton was not involved in any way in the investigations targeting Epstein, not even as a witness. In the United States, on the other hand, there is a theory that the Republican Party is trying to implicate the Clinton family in the Epstein scandal for political reasons, primarily to divert attention from the fact that influential Republicans also appear in the recently published files, including President Donald Trump, who was friends with Jeffrey Epstein for a time (but claims to have severed ties with him many years ago).

According to Smuglianka's logic, Putin is involved in the Epstein scandal because he met with Prince Edward.

Thirdly, even if Maia Sandu had met with Hillary Clinton and even if Hillary Clinton had been involved in the Epstein scandal (both of which are unproven), this does not prove Maia Sandu's involvement in the scandal. Politicians—and especially dignitaries—by the nature of their work meet hundreds, even thousands of people and have no way of knowing whether they have committed crimes. It is true that their teams make a selection to avoid controversial situations, but this cannot foresee all situations. Using Smuglianka's logic, Russian President Vladimir Putin is deeply involved in the Epstein scandal because he met with Prince Andrew (and this time the information is official and the evidence appears on the Kremlins’ website),  a prince who lost all his titles and was also investigated by the police precisely for his involvement in the Epstein scandal, which in this case is proven beyond doubt.

In the Republic of Moldova, there was indeed a scandal in 2025 related to the amnesty of prisoners serving life sentences for serious crimes. Recently, political debates and accusations have erupted over the pardon of a former prisoner who was later arrested for coordinating a group of assassins who were preparing to kill public figures in Ukraine on demand. Veridica wrote  about this. However, none of these cases prove that Maia Sandu is a supporter of drug traffickers.

LOCAL CONTEXT/ETHOS: The pro-European authorities in Chișinău are often criticized for failing to establish good relations with the Trump administration due to their political views. It is true that the Republic of Moldova had closer relations with Washington during the Biden administration, but this was also the case for most European states, and the "cooling" of relations is caused by the Trump administration's views on Europe and is not due to any alleged reluctance on the part of Chișinău.

Veridica has debunked  falsehoods related to Moldova's alleged involvement in a supposed anti-American coalition and other similar claims that sought to antagonize relations between Chisinau and Washington.
