Disinformation: Ukraine's parliament calls for Zelensky's dismissal, after the meeting with Trump :

The Kyiv parliament will initiate the procedure to suspend President Volodymyr Zelensky from office after his meeting with Donald Trump, claims the pro-Kremlin propaganda, citing an MP accused in Ukraine of high treason for the benefit of Russia.

NEWS: Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleksandr Dubinsky commented on the fiasco of the negotiations between the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, at the White House. On his Telegram channel, he called for an extraordinary session of the Rada to suspend the Ukrainian state leader.

"The events of the last few hours - Zelensky’s humiliation at the White House, Trump's recognition of his diplomatic failure and Ukraine losing the US’s unconditional support - have become the final act of the collapse of the regime," the MP said.

Reality: There is no initiative to have Zelensky suspended by Parliament:

NARRATIVE: The Kyiv parliament will initiate proceedings to suspend Zelensky from office after the diplomatic failure at the White House

WHY THE NARRATIVE IS FALSE: The news, which was picked up by Russian as well as English   or  Spanish language sources, is based on a message posted on Telegram by Oleksandr Dubinsky. The pro-Kremlin media omits the fact that he was arrested for collaborating with the Russian Federation and expelled from the Servant of the People parliamentary group after being charged with treason   in November 2023 for involvement in subversive information activities coordinated by the GRU (Russia's military intelligence service).

It is not the first time that posts by Dubinsky or other former parliamentarians who fled to Russia have been associated with the view of the Kyiv parliament as an institution. Dubinsky's statements do not represent the viewpoint of the Verkhovna Rada, and his position is not supported by the parliamentary majority. The Russian press creates a false synonymy between the Telegram posts of an arrested MP and the official position of the Kyiv Parliament. The narrative reflects the political intentions of Zelensky's opponents or those of Russia rather than a political reality.

Despite the White House scandal, the majority parliamentary group in the Verkhovna Rada, "Servant of the People", maintains a close collaboration with President Volodymyr Zelensky, making it virtually impossible to suspend him from office. The procedure for suspending the President of Ukraine is extremely complex from a legal point of view, it cannot be enforced from a legal perspective, and that is a significant obstacle for Oleksandr Dubinsky's initiative.

Moreover, after the meeting with Donald Trump, Zelensky's level of support increased in Ukraine. Even the Ukrainian opposition has taken the decision to support Zelensky despite strained relations in recent months.  Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine's fifth president and leader of the opposition European Solidarity party, said he would not criticize Zelensky  and added that all Ukrainians "were rooting for Ukraine". "Some expected me to criticize Zelensky. But no, there won't be any criticism, because that's not what the country needs now," he said.

In January, Veridica debunked a false Russian media narrative  according to which Zelensky was at risk of being suspended  due to mental issues. In late February, pro-Kremlin propaganda claimed that Zelensky was being accused in the Verkhovna Rada of terrorism and usurpation of power.  The entire false narrative was based on a Telegram post by another fugitive MP, Artem Dmitruk.

SOCIAL BACKGROUND/ ETHOS: On February 28, 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the US President Donald Trump had a tense meeting at the White House. The discussions degenerated into a heated exchange of words in front of the press. President Trump accused Zelensky of being ungrateful for the US support and warned that refusing to negotiate with Russia could escalate the conflict, even mentioning the risk of  World War III breaking out. US Vice President J.D. Vance stepped in, accusing Zelensky of disrespecting the United States. In response, President Zelensky stressed that Ukraine would not compromise with the "criminal" Vladimir Putin and insisted on the need for security guarantees from the US for any peace agreement. As a result of this confrontation, the planned agreement on the exploitation of mineral resources was not signed, and the joint press conference was canceled. The tensions between Zelensky and Trump have triggered concerns about the prospects for a just peace deal for Ukraine.

PURPOSE: To manipulate the public opinion by omitting important information about the author of the narrative; to discredit the authorities in Kyiv and strengthen anti-Ukrainian sentiments in the West.
