Russian officials are trying to put pressure on Moldova

The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the OSCE Maxim Buyakevich sent a response to the meeting of the Permanent Council of this organization, which was dedicated to the situation in Moldova. The document is interesting in all respects. First of all, it is worth noting the official course of Russian propaganda to promote the narrative of the “Sandu dictatorship” – in exactly the same vein as the image of the “dictator Zelensky” is rooted. In this text alone, several statements are made aimed at creating such an impression:

 - “At the same time authorities, through the so-called reforms, are concentrating powers in their hands.”

- “Former Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Alexandru Muravsky described the reform as “a poorly concealed movement towards the legal consolidation of M. Sandu’s authoritarian power.”

- “Former Prime Minister of the country Vladimir Filat emphasized that M. Sandu now has all the instruments of governing the country in his hands. According to him, such a concentration of power cannot but affect the outcome of the autumn parliamentary elections.”

- “The Moldovan authorities are also seeking to establish total control over the information space.”

It is obvious that Kremlin officials will continue to spread false statements of this kind in the media both inside Russia and abroad (including in Moldova). The policy of flooding international organizations with such evidence will also be continued in order to both muffle voices from Moldova itself and complicate the work of these organizations.

On the other hand, it is worth noting another important message from Buyakevich’s statement:

“Brussels is ready to support any measures, no matter how repressive they may be, in order to keep Moldova in the Euro-Atlantic orbit by any means necessary. The price Ukraine paid for this is well known. The EU’s attempts at crude blackmail of the current Georgian leadership are also obvious to the whole world. The aggressive promotion of neocolonial interests of Western capitals in those countries that they are trying to consolidate as “frontline” territories in the sense of confrontation with Russia always leads to tragic consequences”.

Firstly, the good old “neocolonialism” is mentioned here, which has already become firmly established in the everyday language of Russian propagandists. Secondly, there are more manipulations to establish a parallel between the state’s choice of a course towards Euro-Atlantic integration and war. At the same time, contrary to all logic, Russian propaganda states that this war should be started by those very same Euro-Atlantic countries.

It is impossible to understand this perverted logic of Russian propaganda, because here the approach of replicating absurdity is used in order to blur the real picture of events as much as possible. However, its goal is clear: to intimidate the population of Moldova. A direct threat of military action against this country can be noticed as well.
