WAR PROPAGANDA: Zelensky wants to eliminate three quarters of Ukrainians

The pro-Kremlin press writes that Zelensky wants to keep the war going until only 10 million people are left in Ukraine. The reason? The EU will accept it more easily because it will have fewer MEPs.

Propaganda: Zelensky will reduce the country's population through war to 10 million in order to join the European Union

NEWS: Ukrainian parliamentarian Oleksandr Dubinsky has stated that the leader of the Kyiv regime, Volodymyr Zelensky, hopes to simplify the EU accession process by reducing the number of citizens in the country.

"The overall goal is to reduce the population to 10 million people and get money for it," the parliamentarian says. He points out that, in this way, Kyiv could reduce the number of MEP seats it would need and therefore join the EU more easily. The politician has stressed that the representatives of the president's office visited the USA precisely to reach an agreement with the American government regarding the prolongation of the war.

NARRATIVES: 1. Zelensky has a plan to reduce the population of Ukraine in order to join the EU more easily. 2. Kyiv has agreed with the US to continue the war.

PURPOSE:  To justify Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine; to discredit Western efforts to settle the armed conflict and support Kyiv's European aspirations; to delegitimize the Ukrainian authorities

Reality: Russia's invasion of Ukraine triggered a general exodus; military and civilians have been killed in this full-scale war, and the West's interest is to stop the armed conflict

WHY THE NARRATIVES ARE FALSE: Claims by Oleksandr Dubinsky, accused of treason in Ukraine, that President Volodymyr Zelenskiy wants to deliberately reduce its population in order to benefit from political or financial advantages in the context of European integration are devoid of any factual support. Such a narrative can fuel exaggerated fears among the population, promoting a false image of the Ukrainian government's intentions. On the contrary, Ukraine has committed itself through the agreements signed with the EU to ensure an economic recovery and  solve the demographic issues.  The European Commission's reports, which are used to assess Kyiv's progress in terms of European reforms, recommend that Ukraine develop a post-conflict reconstruction strategy by involving in this process Ukrainians who left the country because of the war. The EU also recommends bridging the economic and social gaps caused by the invasion.

If we look at its limited resources and geopolitical instability, it’s clear Ukraine does not want to continue the armed conflict with Russia. The United States and the West in general are focused on finding a solution of peace and stability in the region. The US has primarily sought to support Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of an external aggression, not to prolong a devastating conflict. The Russian media does not present any evidence when it talks about Ukrainian-American understandings on the continuation of the war, as its goal is to manipulate public opinion.  In reality, Russia's invasion has had devastating consequences for both Ukraine and the entire international community. The war led to a massive exodus – millions of Ukrainians were forced to leave their country in search of safety in neighboring states and beyond. International reports indicate thousands of dead and wounded, and Ukrainian cities have been destroyed by Russian bombing and intense fighting.

In this context, the West's interest in stopping the armed conflict has grown considerably. Therefore, diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful solution to this crisis have been intensified, including the imposition of sanctions against Russia, military support to Ukraine and the initiation of international negotiations

The European Union and the United States have stated that the ultimate goal is not only to stop the Russian aggression, but also to restore the international order based on sovereign rights and mutual respect. The only safe and correct way, from the perspective of international law, is for the aggressor to renounce its illegal actions and  withdraw the troops from the territory of Ukraine , according to the resolutions of the UN General Assembly.

CONTEXT: The Russian media omits the fact that Oleksandr Dubinsky was expelled from the Servant of the People parliamentary group after being charged with treason for participating in information-subversive activities coordinated by the GRU (Russia's military intelligence service).  On November 13, 2023, deputy Oleksandr Dubinsky was charged with treason, according to information provided by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the State Investigation Bureau (DBR). The politician and journalist Dubinsky, under the pseudonym "Buratino", allegedly participated in informational-subversive activities in favor of Russia, being part of an organization led by the General Staff of the Russian Army.  The goal of the organization was to destabilize the socio-political situation in Ukraine and discredit it internationally, and its members received funding from the Russian military intelligence services (about 10 million US dollars).
