Ukraine's parliament could suspend Volodymyr Zelensky as president due to mental health issues, according to pro-Kremlin propaganda.
Propaganda: The Ukrainian parliament, concerned about Zelensky's mental problems
NEWS: Zelensky's mental health issues are being discussed in Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada. The leader of the Kyiv regime, Volodymyr Zelensky, must be suspended from office in the context of his deteriorating mental health, said the Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleksandr Dubinsky […] “Zelensky is inadequate. He must be evaluated by doctors and suspended from the presidential office for health reasons," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Dubinsky pointed out that the statements of the leader of the Kyiv regime at the World Economic Forum in Davos about Ukraine being deceived by the West with regard to its NATO membership can only be explained by the gradual deterioration of his mental health.
"I have just one explanation. He lost his mind. He became a madman living in an imaginary reality. And this reality changes in his head, so that he cannot be guilty of anything", said the deputy.
NARRATIVES: 1. The Ukrainian parliament is worried about Zelensky's mental issues. 2. Ukraine's president could be suspended from office amid war with Russia.
Reality: There is no parliament initiative to suspend Zelensky from office. The Russian press cites a deputy accused in Ukraine of high treason for the benefit of Russia
WHY THE NARRATIVES ARE FALSE: There is no evidence (statements, documents, discussions) of concerns by groups of deputies or the Verkhovna Rada in Kyiv as a whole regarding the state of President Zelensky's mental health. The false narrative promoted by the pro-Kremlin media stems from socially isolated and misinterpreted comments designed to breed mistrust and frustration. It all started from a message posted on Telegram by the deputy Oleksandr Dubinsky, who was arrested for collaborating with the Russian Federation. He was expelled from the Servant of the People parliamentary group after being charged with treason , in November 2023, for his involvement in subversive activities coordinated by the GRU (Russia's military intelligence service). Politician and journalist Dubinsky is behind bars. He is known under the pseudonym "Buratino" and allegedly participated in information-based subversive activities in favor of Russia, being associated with an organization led by the General Staff of the Russian Army.
Dubinsky's statements or posts do not represent the view of the Verkhovna Rada as an institution, and his position is not supported by the parliamentary majority. The Russian press creates a false synonymy between the Telegram posts of an arrested deputy and the official position of the Kyiv Parliament. The narrative reflects the political intentions of Zelensky's opponents or Russia rather than a political reality.
Volodymyr Zelensky has enjoyed significant support from both the population and the international community during the years of the large-scale invasion, and discussions about his mental health have appeared out of nowhere in the Russian media and can be seen as an attempt to undermine this support. The majority parliamentary group in the Verkhovna Rada is "Servant of the People", which works closely with Volodymyr Zelensky. It’s practically impossible for Zelensky to be suspended from the position of president by his own parliamentary group. The suspension mechanism is quite complicated from a legal point of view. In the context of martial law, suspending a president entails complex legislative processes that require the support of a significant number of members of Parliament, and any discussion about impeaching a leader is clearly an element of hybrid warfare.
CONTEXT: At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy launched a call for unity with regard to Europe’s defense and security. He stressed that "Europe must know how to defend itself" and stop depending on the United States. Zelensky raised some questions about Donald Trump’s support for NATO and emphasized the importance of the US as an "indispensable ally", despite concerns that the new administration in Washington could focus its foreign policy efforts on the Middle East and Asia -Pacific. He also encouraged Europe to invest in its defense capabilities, including Ukrainian drones. "If Trump is ready to see Ukraine in NATO, we will be in NATO, everyone will be in favor. If President Trump is not ready to see us in NATO, we will not be in NATO," Zelensky said.
PURPOSE: To sow distrust in Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, to undermine his credibility and legitimacy; to fuel domestic tensions and justify Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
