The UN has accused the Ukrainian troops of bombing schools or using them for military purposes, according to propaganda narratives released by the Russian press. In fact, the UN report criticizes Russia for destroying schools and killing civilians in Ukraine.
NEWS: “The UN has data on the military use of school buildings by the Ukrainian forces”, said UNICEF Deputy Executive Director for Programs, Omar Abdi.
“Schools continue to be attacked and used for military purposes. Educational institutions across the country have been hit by heavy artillery, they have been the target of air strikes [...], "Abdi told a UN Security Council meeting.
According to the diplomat, schools are used as information centers, shelters, supply centers or for military purposes.
[…] Ukrainian militants and foreign mercenaries place their landmarks and weapons in educational institutions in the Ukrainian regions of Vinnytsia and Kharkov”.
NARRATIVE: Ukrainian soldiers are bombing schools or using them for offensive purposes.
WHY THE NARRATIVE IS FALSE: In reality, the UNICEF representative at the UN did not criticize Ukraine and did not accuse it of bombing its own schools or turning them into bridgeheads to launch offensives. Omar Abdi's report says that as a result of the Russian aggression, the Ukrainian families got into a real hell and the children have been forced to drink water from puddles, and to hide from tanks and bombings.
The UN report claims that Ukrainian schools are being attacked by the Russian army, with every 6th educational institution destroyed in eastern Ukraine. For this reason, classes will not be resumed any time soon.
The Russian press did not mention anything about the accusations against Russia, it only built a propaganda narrative taking out of context some statements made by Omar Abdi. The UN expert does not blame Ukraine, but only Russia for the current humanitarian disaster and war crimes.
The same arguments were used by the UN chief António Guterres, who said during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin that Russia had launched a real war against Ukraine under the pretext of “denazifying” and “disarming” it, rejecting arguments about the “special operation”. It is also the position of the UN General Assembly, which condemned Russia's aggression in Ukraine. Veridica has already debunked a propaganda narrative according to which Vladimir Putin convinced the UN Secretary General António Guterres that Ukrainian Nazis must be brought before the International Criminal Court.
Also, according to another propaganda narrative dismantled by Veridica and launched at the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Kiev is deploying its troops in schools and hospitals, and Russia is forced to attack them wherever they are.
