The inhabitants of Zaporizhzhia has asked that their city be included in the People’s Republic of Donetsk, the Russian media writes. This is a fabrication – there has never been a request in this sense.
NEWS: “The inhabitants of the city of Zaporizhzhia have called on the head of the People’s Republic of Donetsk (DNR), Denis Pushilin, to annex their city to the DNR. A video report detailing the people’s request was published by Kurlaeva’s special correspondent on the Telegram account of “Kur-LIFE”.
“The inhabitants of the city of Zaporizhzhia are calling on Denis Pushilin to make the city part of the DNR, where things are calmer”, the author of the video comments. Furthermore, people express their gratitude to the DNR army, represented by the head of the republic, for “peaceful skies”. Kurlaeva also recalled that people in the liberated territories will obtain the DNR citizenship and then, should they want it, Russian citizenship as well.
[…] People’s militias in the People’s Republics of Luhansk and Donetsk continue to receive complaints about bombings targeting the inhabitants of Donbas, launched from Ukrainian Grad and Uragan missile launchers.”
NARRATIVE: The inhabitants of Zaporizhzhia have called for the annexation to the People’s Republic of Donetsk.
WHY THE NARRATIVE IS FALSE: The video recording, quoted by the Russian media and produced by a journalist from Donbas, makes no reference and advances no request or declaration as to the will of the people in Zaporizhzhia to be annexed to the self-proclaimed People’s Republic of Donetsk. This is, in fact, a report published on Telegram, that gathered over 215 thousand views, which actually doesn’t include any footage from Zaporizhzhia, but from Rozivka, a village located 170 kilometers from the Zaporizhzhia regional center. It is a village close to the Mariupol Oblast, currently under the control of the Russian army. Therefore, the title and content of this war propaganda narrative are false: the leader of the self-proclaimed republic of Donetsk never visited Zaporizhzhia, but a village far away, and no one there requested the annexation to the separatist republic.
In fact, right now it is impossible Denis Pushilin should visit the city of Zaporizhzhia. Whereas Rozivka village is controlled by Russian troops, Zaporizhzhia is controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to a report of the Ukrainian army, Zatishye, Malinivka, Vesele, Zelenyi Gai, Chervone and others have already been liberated from Russian occupation.
The purpose of this war propaganda narrative is to prepare public opinion in Russia for a future escalation of the conflict in Donbas, which would require false justification of a new offensive as part of the Kremlin’s “special operation to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine”.
