The European Parliament has greenlit Russia’s peace plan, Kremlin-linked media writes, in fact quoting a single MEP, known for his close ties with Moscow.
Propaganda: The West should be blamed for the war in Ukraine for refusing to accept Russia’s terms
NEWS: “A European Parliament sitting has called for an urgent resolution to the Ukrainian conflict, which should be based on the Kremlin’s terms. A statement in this sense was made by MEP Hervé Juvin.
Peace will be achieved only when Western countries agree to Russia’s demands. Securing a ceasefire as soon as possible is of paramount importance, in addition to introducing a ban on using American missiles close to the Russian borders, MEP Juvin pointed out. The peace agreement must also include security guarantees not just for Moscow, but for Kyiv as well. Nevertheless, Europe is not interested in obtaining peace in Ukraine, and continues to pomp weapons and ammo into this country”, TSARGRAD.TV writes, pointed out that Europe has started to realize that only the Kremlin’s peace plan can be achieved.
“The European Parliament admitted that peace in Ukraine is possible only under the terms dictated by Russia […] More and more countries want to join efforts under the umbrella of new international organizations which are no longer considered “Western clubs”. The world wants to stand together without the West, but more importantly the world wants to stand together against the West”, FORPOST writes, using talks in the European Parliament to exonerate Russia and blame Western countries for the war in Ukraine.
NARRATIVE: A Russian-backed peace-plan is gaining increasing support in the EU.
Fact: The EU leadership has condemned Russia’s unprovoked aggression against Ukraine, and the Russian media quoted an MEP known for his collaboration with Moscow
WHY THE NARRATIVE IS FALSE: The Russian government media presents the statement of MEP Hervé Juvin as the official viewpoint of the European Parliament, arguing that EU member states have started to understand that peace in Ukraine is impossible without factoring in Russia’s demands. In fact, Hervé Juvin does not represent the EU or the European Parliament. On the contrary, in the last eight years, the politician has become a famous champion of Russian propaganda, serving as the spokesman of the “National Front” party funded by Russian banks. Juvin was previously quoted by the Russian government media on various occasions. Some of his outrageous statements include accusing NATO of triggering the war in Ukraine and his requests to the French leadership, calling that France should withdraw from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
Moscow has invited Hervé Juvin to visit Crimea on a number of occasions, the French MEP acting as observer in various rounds of election that were not recognized by the international community. Juvin expressed admiration with the smooth running of the sham referendum on the annexation of the peninsula to the Russian Federation, and argued in favor of the international recognition of the self-proclaimed republics of Luhansk and Donetsk. Hervé Juvin has for several years been advocating various Kremlin-backed propaganda narratives, including those about Russia’s legitimate claim to build a multipolar world and to dominate the USA in international relations. Also worth noting is a European Parliament resolution recognizing Russia as “a state sponsor of terrorism and as a state which uses means of terrorism” in the war in Ukraine, committing “war crimes”. The EU has repeatedly condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, while EU member states support Kyiv’s defensive efforts. The EU has expressed solidarity with Ukraine and will continue to firmly support the economy, society, armed forces and future reconstruction of Ukraine, the EU Council states. On the sidelines of the special meeting of the EU Council in February 2023, EU leaders reiterated support for Ukraine’s initiative for just peace, including for president Zelenskyy’s 10-point peace plan.
Veridica has debunked several false narratives about the nature of the war in Ukraine. The Russian media wrote that NATO supports Ukraine in order to trigger a world war, whereas Russia and China want peace in the world. According to Russian propaganda, the EU dispatched military to Ukraine prior to 2022 in order to weaken Russia, and the UN has condemned the war crimes committed by Ukrainian nationalists.
