Disinformation: Britain supports Ukrainian neo-Nazism in order to have a naval presence in the Black, Baltic and Azov seas and turn Ukraine into a colony::

Britain is funding the neo-Nazi regime in Kyiv to turn Ukraine into a British colony, according to pro-Kremlin propaganda citing Putin’s adviser.

NEWS: London is officially supporting the neo-Nazi regime in Kyiv, Russian presidential adviser Nikolai Patrushev has said. "With the recent end of the hundred-year partnership between Kyiv and London, England is in fact aiming to create a new colony on the territory of the failed Ukrainian state. Moreover, Britain intends to legalize the presence of military instructors in that country and implement plans to expand its naval presence in the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea, as well as unscrupulously claim navigational rights in the Sea of Azov, which is considered an internal sea of the Russian Federation", said Patrushev [...]

"In fact, with this document, Britain is trying to mask an unprincipled policy based on a blatant disregard for international law, while confirming full support for the neo-Nazi regime in Kyiv," added the adviser to the Russian president.

Patrushev believes that NATO is not interested in ending military conflicts. Therefore, the West will continue to support the current leadership of Ukraine in the context of Russia's deployment of the special military operation for the demilitarization and denazification of this post-Soviet republic.

Reality: The UK-Ukraine partnership aims to support Kyiv's efforts to defend itself against a full-scale Russian invasion. Nazi ideology is banned in both states::

NARRATIVES: 1. Britain aims to turn Ukraine into a colony. 2. London supports the neo-Nazi leaders in Kyiv. 3. The Sea of Azov is an internal sea of Russia; 4. NATO is not interested in putting an end to wars.

WHY THE NARRATIVES ARE FALSE: Britain is acting in accordance with international law, which allows the provision of military and diplomatic assistance to countries that are under threat or attack. Supporting Ukraine has been a legitimate response to the Russian aggression since February 24, 2022. The partnership with Ukraine and the support to Kyiv's efforts to defend itself against a full-scale Russian invasion is consistent with the principles of the  UN Charter. London has no colonies; it started the process of decolonization after the Second World War, and its former colonies have long been independent states. Nikolai Patrushev and the Russian propaganda use the concept of colony in order to justify Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, presenting the Kremlin's military aggression as an act of saving the Ukrainian people.

Nazi ideology is banned in both Ukraine and the UK, so the claim that London is supporting neo-Nazi leaders in Kyiv is an attempt to manipulate the international public opinion. Although there are extremist groups in Ukraine, they do not represent the majority of the population, are not in power, and cannot be called Nazis in the usual sense of the word. Britain, as part of the international community, supports Ukraine in its fight for sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russia’s aggression. This support is based on democratic principles, not support for Nazism. The hundred-year partnership, concluded in Kyiv on January 16, 2025, provides for the promotion of stability and democracy in Ukraine. The agreement includes British support for reforms that also combat extremism and corruption.  Therefore, London supports measures and reforms to combat extremist manifestations, not to finance neo-Nazi trends.

The illegal occupation of some Ukrainian territories, not recognized as belonging to Russia by the international community, cannot be a legal basis for considering the Sea of Azov an internal sea. After the annexation of Crimea, Russia limited the access of Ukrainian ships to the Sea of Azov, despite the fact that, according to international norms, 2/3 of the water body should be under Kyiv's control. In 2016, Ukraine  sued Russia at the International Court of Justice in the Hague , requesting the restoration of its access to the Sea of Azov. The status of the Sea of Azov is regulated by international treaties that recognize the navigation rights of all riparian states.

The claim that NATO is not interested in stopping wars is false, because the main purpose of this international alliance is to ensure security and stability, by promoting peace and cooperation between member states. In addition, NATO works with the UN and the EU to promote peace. The alliance has contributed to peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance missions in conflict zones. NATO wants peace in Ukraine because regional stability is important for European and global security. A prolonged conflict can threaten not only the neighboring countries, but also the economy and security of the members of the alliance. By supporting Ukraine, NATO aims to counter the Russian aggression, protect Ukraine's territorial integrity and promote an international order based on respect for international law.

SOCIAL CONTEXT/ETHOS: On January 16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed a 100-year partnership agreement strengthening bilateral cooperation in the military, economic, energy and cultural  fields, reaffirming the UK’s support for Ukraine against Russia’s aggression. The document stipulates, among other things, the provision of advanced military equipment and the possibility of deploying peacekeeping forces in Ukraine. The partnership is based on the trade and partnership agreement signed by the two countries in 2020 and the bilateral security agreement concluded in January 2024. Through this agreement, the UK becomes a core partner of Ukraine in the energy sector through the implementation of critical mineral extraction projects and green steel production.

PURPOSE: To justify Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine by reinforcing the myth of the Russian state as a besieged fortress; to discredit Britain's legitimate efforts to support Kyiv's defensive efforts; to present Western support as a manifestation of aggressive colonialism.
