The World Health Organization has called for a ban on animal husbandry for the sake of protecting the planet, according to a website known for spreading conspiracy theories.
The global cabal wants the world population to be vegan
NEWS: “A new statement by the WHO director general Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has revealed that globalists are secretly plotting to starve mankind as part of their plan to reduce world population. The WHO is doing that under the guise of combating “climate change”. According to the WHO, a ban on meat and dairy products is the first necessary step towards attaining their radical objective”.
NARRATIVE: The global cabal wants to ban animal farms
BACKGROUND: The concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere became a concern for experts ever since the 1950s. Starting 1958, the level of CO2 started being subject to regular measurements, which revealed an average annual increase in its concentration in the atmosphere. According to data published by Greenhouse Gas Bulletin, in 2021 CO2 stood at 149% compared to the preindustrial era. As a result, experts are concerned that, in the near future, ecosystems across continents and oceans will no longer have the capacity to effectively absorb the surplus of generated CO2, and to act as a buffer against the increase in global temperatures. Accordingly, the fight against global warming has become essential, a topic of major interest to the majority of the world population, which is seeking to radically curb its carbon footprint.
A number of studies examining the human activities that generate greenhouse gas emissions (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, etc.) have shown that the main reason behind this increase are the emissions generated by the burning of fossil fuels and cement production. As regards agriculture, animal breeding for human consumption generates half the amount of emissions, compared to farming.
For this reason, several international organizations have come up with plans and are working together to bring world economy to a neutral status in terms of generating polluting emissions in order to protect the environment and human health.
The World Health Organization is a UN agency tasked with maintaining and coordinating the health of the global population. Its activity focuses on aspects pertaining to the prevention and treatment of diseases or curbing their effects, as well as on nutrition and food, lifestyle and substance abuse. Just as other organizations (the UN as a whole, NATO, the EU, etc.), the WHO itself is viewed by conspiracy theorists as an instrument used by a so-called global cabal. Hostility towards the role and activity of the WHO was fueled by the restrictive measures it recommended during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, even before that, the WHO was described as a threat to the freedom of mankind, seeking to implement a globalist agenda designed to enslave the population on the planet and impose an unnatural social order.
PURPOSE: To undermine societal trust in the authorities, to validate the previously promoted conspiracy theories, to stir and amplify social unrest, to demonize the West.
Changing eating habits is not tantamount to introducing a ban
WHY THE NARRATIVE IS FALSE: In December, Dubai hosted the UN annual conference on change, COP28. One of the main topics approached was to set a course for collective global action to transform food systems for people, so as to fulfill the commitments and plans stipulated by the Paris Agreement, whereby the UN wants to limit the increase in the average global temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. A food system is the entire process whereby food is produced, up to the final consumption by users.
In that respect, the UN conference issued a number of recommendations, and heads of state and government attending the summit pledged to support several actions to ensure health diets for the population, while at the same time contributing to reducing malnutrition in all its forms. Moreover, countries are also expected to implement certain measures to reduce their impact on the environment, climate and on food and health systems.
The statement attributed to the WHO president, Dr. Tedors Ghebreyesus, whereby the WHO official called for a ban on animal farms, does not exist. The false narrative is most likely based on his message on X, where he says that “transforming food systems is therefore essential, by shifting towards healthier, diversified and more plants-based diets”. Ghebreyesus’s recommendation was based on the fact that food systems contribute to over 30% of greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for almost one third of the global burden of disease.
Besides, at European level, the European Commission is working on the first piece of EU legislation that will set the mandatory targets for curbing food waste, pursuant to the “Farm to Fork” strategy. Its main purpose is to cut food waste by half by 2030. Therefore, under the Horizon programme, the European Commission is funding activities of research and innovation in the food and agriculture sector, including identifying solutions that contribute to cutting food waste.
To conclude, the transformation of food systems does not provide for the introduction of a ban on breeding animals for meat consumption, but rather the disbursement of subsidies for the development of healthy eating programs, in conjunction with social welfare programs and the funding of technologies that produce non-polluting foods with a low carbon footprint.
