Vladimir Putin has allegedly demanded that the US extradite Bill Gates and Anthony Fauci, who are accused in Russia of “bioterrorism” and “crimes against humanity”, with their handover purportedly representing a “non-negotiable” condition for ending the war in Ukraine, according to anti-vaccine/pro-Russian propaganda in Romania.

EXTRADITION. TRIAL. DEATH PENALTY. Sources say Putin has made extradition a non-negotiable demand in the Ukraine peace negotiations. No Gates, no deal. Gates and Fauci are sacrificial pawns, and if they are not handed over, Putin will escalate. The West is paralysed. If they agree, the entire clique will be exposed. If they refuse, they will reveal their complicity to the world. This is more than a geopolitical game of chess. This is the spark that could bring down the entire globalist order.
NARRATIVE: Vladimir Putin is making peace in Ukraine conditional on the extradition of Bill Gates and Anthony Fauci to Russia, where they are being tried for “bioterrorism” and “crimes against humanity”.
PURPOSE: To promote conspiracy narratives and self-validate their own discourse, to fuel pro-Russian and especially pro-Putin sentiments, to demonise the West, and provoke and exacerbate social tensions.
The extradition request appears to have been sent by Santa Claus
WHY THE NARRATIVE IS FALSE: There is absolutely no evidence that Putin has made any request for the extradition of Gates and Fauci, or that they are facing criminal prosecution in Russia. Nor has any GRU document been made public that substantiates the claims made in the story. Moreover, the narrative can be traced back to conspiracy-oriented publications that successively added new dramatic elements to an initial story about Anthony Fauci.
How the story began: from “Fauci” to “Gates and Fauci”
The first identifiable version of the narrative appeared on January 22, 2025, when The People's Voice website published, without providing any evidence, an article entitled Putin “Demanding Fauci Extradition” for “Crimes Against Humanity” as Part of Ukraine Peace Deal. The People's Voice is a well-known source of disinformation worldwide, run by Sean Adl-Tabatabai, who previously operated the disinformation websites Your News Wire and NewsPunch, whose false narratives also made their way into the Romanian media landscape and were debunked by Veridica. The article subsequently became the source of several posts on X, although it provided no named source, document or evidence for Putin's alleged demand. At that point, Bill Gates was not even part of the story, which focused on Anthony Fauci. On January 22, 2025, the claim began circulating that Trump was considering extraditing Fauci to Russia as part of a deal to end the war in Ukraine.
Shortly afterwards, the story was expanded following the publication of the article PUTIN SETS OFF THE BOOM: BILL GATES FACES EXTRADITION FOR BIOTERRORISM – DEATH PENALTY LOOMS AS THE GLOBALIST CABAL CRUMBLES!, written by Medeea Greere and published by AMG-News (the article has since been updated and now appears as having been published on August 4, 2026, while the site's archive/tag page previously indicated that it had been published in August 2025, and copies of the text date it to January 2025). At this point, the narrative becomes far more elaborate. It is no longer simply “Putin, Fauci, extradition, peace in Ukraine”, but rather “Putin, Gates and Fauci, the GRU, bioterrorism, COVID created as a weapon, genocide, the death penalty, the collapse of the ‘globalists’”. Among other things, the article claims that Putin is directly demanding the extradition of Gates and Fauci as a “non-negotiable” condition for ending the war in Ukraine. It also claims that the GRU possesses “irrefutable” documents concerning the deliberate creation of COVID-19 as part of an operation coordinated by Gates and Fauci for “depopulation and control”. The two allegedly faced life imprisonment or the death penalty. The fundamental problem with the article is that none of these allegations is accompanied by the documents it claims exist. The article provides nothing that could even identify the documents in question. There is no reference number, date, author or issuing institution, and, most importantly, no copies of the documents or links to them. Nor were we able to identify any GRU statement concerning such an investigation, any criminal case number, or the name of a prosecutor or court that could confirm the existence of this evidence.
What are Putin’s actual conditions for peace?
The claim can also be checked very simply by comparing it with the Kremlin’s official statements. Since the outbreak of the conflict, Putin has publicly set out Russia’s conditions for entering into negotiations with Ukraine on numerous occasions. These have included the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the regions claimed by Russia, Ukraine abandoning its bid to join NATO, its adoption of a neutral status, the demilitarisation of the country, and Kyiv’s recognition of the “new territorial realities” claimed by Russia. Russia has also demanded that the West lift international economic sanctions.
The names of Bill Gates or Anthony Fauci, bioterrorism, crimes against humanity or COVID-19 do not appear in any official Russian statement or demand. Moreover, none of these statements includes any condition requiring the handover of US citizens, whoever they may be, to stand trial in Russia.
The US and Russia have no extradition treaty, while the death penalty is suspended in Russia
Moreover, the “story” assumes that the United States could simply “hand over” Gates and Fauci to Russia. However, US extradition law is based on the existence of an extradition treaty, and the United States and Russia have no such bilateral treaty (page 33). Therefore, the “story” not only lacks any evidence that Putin made such a request, but the scenario it describes also faces a major legal obstacle.
Furthermore, although the narrative refers to the possibility of the two men being sentenced to death, this is merely an exaggeration intended for dramatic effect. In Russia, the death penalty still exists in the Criminal Code, but it is not applied, pursuant to a decision by Russia’s Constitutional Court. Capital punishment has therefore not been carried out in Russia since 1996, when the country joined the Council of Europe.
There is no evidence that the virus was created as a weapon
Starting from the established fact that the origin of SARS-CoV-2 is still under investigation, we will also try to examine where this hypothesis may have originated. In June 2025, the World Health Organization published an independent assessment conducted by the SAGO group. The report states that the information needed to fully assess all hypotheses has not been provided and that all hypotheses should remain under consideration, including zoonotic transmission and a possible laboratory-related incident. However, this does not mean that the WHO concluded that SARS-CoV-2 was created as a biological weapon. On the contrary, SAGO states that the weight of the available evidence favours zoonotic transmission, although the issue cannot be considered settled because of the missing information.
Moreover, a declassified document from the US intelligence community explicitly examined the theory that SARS-CoV-2 had been created as a biological weapon. The assessment concluded that public claims that Beijing had created SARS-CoV-2 as a biological weapon were inconsistent with the available technical information on coronaviruses. The document also notes that certain genetic features cited as evidence of genetic engineering are not, in themselves, diagnostic of such intervention. This does not, of course, demonstrate that the theory of a laboratory-related incident is impossible, but it does show that there is no basis for the claim made in the post that the existence of a SARS-CoV-2 virus “designed as a biological weapon” had been irrefutably proven.
Bill Gates, a favourite figure in conspiracy theories
CONTEXT: The narrative analysed today falls within the broader trend of conspiracy theories about a plan to exterminate/enslave/manipulate humanity, allegedly being implemented by the world’s healthcare systems and funded by the “globalist elites”. And because those behind the “plot” need to have an identity, the role is assigned, in turn, to the world’s billionaires, particularly those involved in efforts aimed at tackling the various crises facing the planet. Among them, magnates Bill Gates and George Soros, as well as World Economic Forum founder Klaus Schwab, feature prominently.
These theories are not aimed at uncovering secrets carefully concealed by a shadowy global elite, but rather at destabilising society in general and generating substantial financial gains through the sale of “solutions”. Many of these theories originate in Russia (as the one discussed here appears to), but there are also numerous Western publications and “influencers”, usually associated with the radical right and conspiracy-theory circles, that are likewise sources of such disinformation. These narratives are then picked up and spread by other “influencers” or local publications to audiences susceptible to such narratives and disinformation, generally people who distrust the authorities.
For years, American billionaire Bill Gates has been accused of being a member of the “global cabal” and of pursuing a sinister plan to reduce the world’s population through vaccines and other medical procedures which, if they do not kill people quickly, allegedly render them infertile or cause irreversible illness. Gates has also been accused of seeking to implant chips in people’s brains in order to control their thoughts and actions, or of working with the Monsanto corporation to genetically modify plants and insects in order to poison humanity through food and incurable diseases.
In reality, the American businessman is currently the world’s leading philanthropist, with his contributions to his own foundation alone amounting to 60 billion USD and its activities spanning 135 countries. Thanks to the Gates Foundation’s charitable work and funding of medical research in this field, several serious diseases, including meningitis, tuberculosis, malaria, polio, sexually transmitted diseases, and even COVID-19, have been eradicated or reduced from tens or hundreds of thousands of cases to just a few cases a year.
Alongside Bill Gates, the current narrative also features Anthony Fauci, the former director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a position he held from 1984 to 2022. Fauci became the country’s most prominent expert in the field during the COVID-19 pandemic and the subject of numerous conspiracy theories. Fauci was among the elected officials and former public servants whom Joe Biden pre-emptively pardoned shortly before leaving the White House. The Democratic president justified the move as an attempt to protect them from “partisan” investigations or prosecutions that Donald Trump and other Republican candidates had threatened during the 2024 election campaign. However, it was precisely this decision that triggered an explosion of false narratives, conspiracy theories and accusations against the American doctor.
In addition, the narrative also seeks to glorify Vladimir Putin, now portrayed as the leader of the fight against the globalist cabal and as a defender of Christianity and the freedom of nations, one of Moscow propaganda’s favourite themes for years, even before the invasion of Ukraine began.
