According to a false narrative promoted online, Mircea Lucescu died because he had taken the COVID-19 vaccine. Narratives of this type have become commonplace in recent years. Conspiracy theorists seek to spread their theories by taking advantage of the notoriety of public figures and the increased public interest shown when they pass away.

NEWS: May God rest his soul!

Why did Mircea Lucescu die?

He died because of the adverse reactions of the K_vid vaccine... the rest is just tabloid talk!

I wonder how the “Satanists” sleep, those who deceived “celebrities” like Mircea Lucescu into getting vaccinated and, moreover, letting themselves be filmed to trick other people?

I personally come into contact with many people daily and the vast majority say, “after I got vaccinated, I was no longer a HUMAN BEING”. And so I tell them: go, brothers, and Confess, take Communion as often as possible, Pray and Fast as much as you can so you can eliminate the POISON introduced into your body through the vaccine.

PURPOSE: To fuel conspiracy bubbles, people opposing scientifically proven medicine and favoring natural remedies, as well as the voter bubbles of extremists, particularly SOS. This is due to the fact that Diana Șoșoacă was the most radical anti-vaccine voice during the COVID-19 pandemic, an attitude and positioning that brought her major electoral advantages.

NARRATIVE: Mircea Lucescu died because he was vaccinated against COVID-19.

WHY THE NARRATIVE IS FALSE: Veridica sources within the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital say that the heart attack Mircea Lucescu suffered on April 4 while hospitalized (after falling ill during a training session a week prior) was massive and caused irreparable damage to his body.

The coach, who was to turn 81 this year, had suffered from serious heart problems for nearly three decades. He even suffered a heart attack in 2009 while coaching Shakhtar Donetsk and underwent emergency surgery in a Kyiv hospital. His heart problems had therefore appeared long before he was vaccinated against COVID-19; the vaccine did not cause them, but rather protected him from potential complications that could have been fatal due to his age, medical conditions or other underlying health conditions. Furthermore, Mircea Lucescu placed great importance on healthcare and was associated with the medical campaign “We take care of your heart!”, conducted by the Romanian Society of Cardiology in 2010, one year after his heart attack in Ukraine.

Severe complications or adverse reactions caused by the COVID-19 vaccine appear shortly after vaccination and not after 5–6 years. Cardiovascular complications that may appear in some vaccinated individuals (in rare cases and usually after the second dose) are myocarditis or pericarditis, which are treatable.

Last but not least, Mircea Lucescu was suffering from a rare form of leukemia that he had recently discovered in December 2025, as detailed by sports commentator Ovidiu Ioanițoaia, a friend of Lucescu for decades, to reporters at Golazo. The coach's body was therefore also weakened by this condition, which was compounded by his older health issues, age, and the stress and demands involved in coaching.

BACKGROUND: The moment this anti-vaccine narrative is rehashed by conspiracy theorists is one charged with strong emotion, as Mircea Lucescu was one of the best-known and most respected personalities in Romanian sports and probably the best Romanian football coach of all time. Beyond the trophies won, Mircea Lucescu was a character deeply loved by the players he trained, the public and his colleagues, and he commanded great respect at international level.

Therefore, the death of “Il Luce” caused a huge wave of emotion that conspiracy theorists were able to double with a wave of hatred against the COVID vaccine which, they claim, “killed” Lucescu.

The high profile of public figures has been used for years to give greater visibility to conspiracy theories, fake news and disinformation regarding the effects of vaccines in general, not just those related to COVID. In recent years, Veridica has debunked numerous items of fake news related to alleged health problems and deaths caused by COVID-19 vaccines.
