China broke the Israeli blockade and delivered humanitarian aid to Gaza, according to a false narrative promoted by MEP Diana Șoșoacă.
NEWS: An injustice in which all countries, absolutely all countries, are playing an unacceptable game. I greatly appreciated China's intervention, because it actually went and broke the blockade. For 80 days, those people in Palestine, after being bombarded, were left without food or water, and the only country that had the courage to break the blockade was China. Okay, it's not even close to Israel, but I saw a video made by the Chinese showing how they traveled some 9,000 kilometers to bring that aid. Man, they did it, when no other country did.
NARRATIVE: China delivered humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, breaking the blockade imposed by Israel.
PURPOSE: To amplify Chinese propaganda and anti-Western and anti-European sentiments, to promote oneself and sovereignism, to validate conspiracy theories, to provoke protests and anti-establishment social movements.
China has not sent aid to Gaza since February
WHY THE NARRATIVE IS FALSE: As usual, Diana Șoșoacă chooses to promote false information in the public sphere without even the slightest verification of facts. In late May – early July, several videos circulating on social media claimed to show Chinese military parachuting humanitarian aid into Gaza. In reality, these were made up of sequences from several videos showing either a joint military exercise between China and Egypt, which took place between April and May 2025, in the Giza pyramid area, or an actual humanitarian aid parachute drop in Gaza, which took place in April 2024 and was coordinated by the US Central Command and the Royal Jordanian Air Force. In fact, Ismail Al-Thawabta, director of the government media office in the Gaza Strip, told Reuters on May 19 that the People's Republic of China had not send any humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip via any airlift and that China had not been among the countries that participated in the 2024 airlift operations.
Furthermore, China has not issued any official statement saying that it has sent aid by air to Gaza. The latest aid deliveries reported by the Chinese government date back to February 19 this year and were transported by truck through Jordan. The aid was part of a larger humanitarian assistance package that China had pledged to provide to 60,000 families in Gaza. This point in the agreement with Jordan was used to describe one of the clips mentioned above, which had the following description: "China had recently promised to provide food aid to 60,000 families, and now it has fulfilled its promise. You can see the cargo plane carrying aid to Gaza, escorted by smaller aircraft for protection. The plane enters Gaza via Egypt”. In fact it featured the military exercise “Eagles of Civilization – 2025”.
Prior to promoting this fake news, Diana Șoșoacă stated in a post on Facebook that she single-handedly "thawed" relations between the European Union and China. In an extremely hilarious manner, the MEP claims non-existent merits, granting herself exaggerated importance, arguing that "the importance of MEP Diana IOVANOVICI-ȘOȘOACĂ's position was highlighted by the fact that she practically led the delegation of European parliamentarians, standing face to face with the president of the delegation of the National People's Congress of China, the highest Chinese authority." Furthermore”, Șoșoacă says, speaking about herself in the third person, "she was the first to be given the floor," although the whole country knows that the former senator speaks whenever, however, and to whomever she wants.
As usual, Șoșoacă promotes disinformation without any discernment.
CONTEXT: The relations between the European Union and China have a 50-year history, albeit one punctuated by a series of tense moments. Influenced by economic, political, and security factors, areas in which the two sides simultaneously demonstrate both cooperation and competition, the strategic relationship between the EU and China reached a decisive impasse a few years ago, triggered by Beijing's attitude during the Covid-19 pandemic. Currently, the EU is China’s biggest trading partner , and China is the EU's second largest trading partner. In the current geopolitical context, however, the EU is seeking to diversify its partnerships and rebalance its relations with China, including by revising certain agreements. But this does not in any way imply breaking ties with China, as Diana Șoșoacă subtly suggests, nor does it imply any rebellious actions by Beijing, such as those falsely invoked by the sovereignist MEP, which would have set an extremely dangerous precedent worldwide.
Declared the political personality of the year 2021 by the Kremlin's mouthpiece, Sputnik, Diana Șoșoacă has made a name for herself over time through various scandals in which she has been involved, but also through the promotion of theses, false narratives, and disinformation very similar to those launched in Russia. In her speeches she also promotes sovereignist, anti-European, and anti-Ukrainian (and now pro-Chinese) theories, while her political activity boils down to taking discriminatory, homophobic, and anti-Semitic positions, legislative initiatives that blatantly contravene international law, and giving speeches that border on the ridiculous. A separate chapter in Diana Şoşoacă's discourse is, of course, the conspiracy theories related to the healthcare system and the hidden plans to exterminate the global population through vaccines, medicines, medical procedures, and treatments for various diseases.
Israel has recently began airdropping aid into Gaza and promised to establish "humanitarian corridors" for UN convoys. Israel has resumed food deliveries to the Gaza Strip following mounting international pressure, amid food shortages in the area and warnings from humanitarian agencies that famine is spreading in the Palestinian enclave.
