Romania's strategic partnership with the US has not produced any tangible results or advantages for Romania, it has only turned the country into an importer of American weapons.
NEWS: “Besides the fact that we are among the very few countries in the world that have allocated 2% of the GDP for Defense, i.e. for the purchase of weapons from the USA, and starting next year, given that we have such intimate interpersonal relations, we will allocate 2.5% of the GDP, the strategic partnership with the USA (which other countries also have) has not done us any good.
Bragging about the shield at Deveselu, which did nothing but damage even further the already bad economic relations with the Russians, as they were before the conflict with Ukraine, and about the base at Kogălniceanu, where we maintain about 2,000 American soldiers who don’t scare anyone, is embarrassing to say the least.
What the Americans should’ve done, out of courtesy, as we are contributing lots of money to their arms industry anyway, would have been to waiver the US visa requirement for us. Because they know very well that Romanians would not have stormed across the ocean, as they are smart guys who know what the real standard of living there is, not the one presented in stories. But this partnership is so strategic that the US has blown us off. Every time […] Now, however, with this anniversary, President Klaus Iohannis tells us, in a roundabout way, to tell visas goodbye, because we don't need them anyway”.
