The consumption of meat and dairy as well as the right to own a car will be banned in Romania, according to a misinterpretation of the findings of an analysis on carbon gas emissions.

The Great Global Reset starts in Bârlad, Câmpina and Moinești

NEWS: “[…] Several cities in Romania are planning on restricting people’s access to meat, dairy products as well as cars. 100 cities have made up a coalition called C40, which seeks to cut down to zero their consumption of meat and dairy products by 2030. The municipalities will allow 3 items of clothing per person every year. People will be prohibited from owning private vehicles and will only be allowed to travel by plane over short distances once every three years. The list of cities that have aligned themselves with the agenda of the World Economic Forum includes Aiud, Alba Iulia, Bârlad, Botoșani, Brașov, Buzău, Câmpina, Cluj Napoca, Constanța, Iași, Lugoj, Moinești, Petroșani, Pitești, Suceava, Tulcea and Zalău. Another target to be achieved by 2030 is to cluster communities in large urban centers with a view to freeing up as much land as possible in order to “save the planet”. The inhabitants of such megapolises will be compelled to feed on synthetic meat, enriched with insect-derived protein. The mayors of the aforementioned Romanian cities are making all the necessary preparations in order to fulfill these preposterous and absurd goals set by WEF, thus endorsing supermarkets that sell synthetic meat and cutting prices to synthetic foodstuffs overall, encouraging the practice of scanning products in stores individually, with the goal of keeping meat and dairy consumption in check. By 2035, these measures will become mandatory, so that 90% of the planet’s population could reside in large urban conglomerates and 15-minute smart cities by 2050, under the authorities’ close surveillance”.

NARRATIVE: The population will be banned from eating animal products and owning private cars.

BACKGROUND: Urban areas account for nearly 75% of carbon dioxide emissions at global level, while experts say that, in order to avoid catastrophic climate change, governments need to operate changes in the way urban areas are designed, built and managed. For this reason, a series of international organizations of urban communities have been created. Through concerted action and joint efforts at global, regional, national and local levels, these organizations seek to identify solutions to combat climate change.

Right now, several cities are measuring the volume of emissions generated by production activities within national boundaries, although this type of analysis does not fully reflect the impact of municipalities on global emissions. 85% of emissions associated with goods and services used in large urban centers are in fact generated on the city outskirts. Manufacturing and transporting various goods within the city boundaries generate huge volumes of greenhouse gas, which is why one of the solutions considered in order to curb carbon dioxide emissions was to cut back on consumption, whether we’re talking about construction materials, foodstuffs, clothing and fabrics, transport, electronics, house appliances or energy. As a result, an increasing number of ecological projects have started to promote an agenda encouraging the spaced-out reduction of consumption on a case-by-case basis.

The narrative about the evil goals pursued by the global cabal, disguised as efforts to combat climate change, is by no means new. Over the years, Veridica has disproved several such fake news, such as those claiming eco-dictatorship will push humanity towards a feudal social system, or that people will have to pay in order to breathe. There are some who even go as far as denying the existence of global warming. In principle, underlying these narratives is the fear that fighting climate change will impoverish people, who will no longer afford the costs of producing “green” energy. Additionally, there’s also the fear that a strong campaign to combat the effects of global warming, backed by world governments, might also disregard people’s economic liberties, and governments could thus grow too strong in comparison to civil societies. In recent years, fear has also been used by Russian propaganda as a tool to draw public attention away from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the Kremlin’s appetite for expansion.

PURPOSE: To undermine societal trust in the authorities and the political class as a whole, to promote sovereigntist and anti-Western rhetoric, to stir and amplify social unrest, as well as to diminish and stop any actions that go against economic interests and businesses engaging in polluting activities.

Recommending a decrease in consumption is not the same thing as banning it

WHY THE NARRATIVE IS FALSE: The World Economic Forum (WEF) is an international non-governmental organization lobbying on behalf of multinational corporations, which claims that the world can best be governed in globalist terms by a coalition of multinational corporations, governments and organizations representing the civil society. The foundation is also a think tank that publishes a large array of reports in a number of fields of activity, such as finance, healthcare or environment protection. However, regardless of the ideas and aspirations of WEF member states, their recommendations are strictly consultative. Contrary to the “warnings” of conspiracy mongers, these recommendations are not mandatory. The “Great Reset” suggested by the WEF president is merely an economic recovery plan launched in June 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Its goal is reconstruction following the global health crisis, in a way that puts sustainable development at the top of the priority list. Meanwhile, the plan has been adjusted to also include measures designed to support economic activities that have been strongly impacted by the war in Ukraine. Beyond all that, the WEF has no connection to the study that the present article refers to.

C40 is an association of cities from all over the world that focuses on combating climate change as well as on urban actions meant to cut back on greenhouse gas emissions, while at the same time enhancing the healthcare, welfare and economic opportunities of residents of urban areas. The organization compiled a study titled “The future or urban consumption in a 1.50 C world”. Its findings were made public in 2019, which was prior to the official launch of the Great Reset. Its authors and sponsors are clearly highlighted at the end: C40, Arup and University of Leeds, with funding from Arup, University of Leeds and Citi Foundation.

The study highlights economic sectors of urban centers that critically contribute to the increase in carbon gas emissions, and gives an estimate of the necessary changes in each sector that could reduce urban-wide consumption, in line with the goal of keeping global warming to 1.50 C. The report refers to six categories of activities in cities that could reduce consumption in order to curb climate change. The authors propose two examples of interventions, where people restrict or completely eliminate their animal food consumption, they reduce the number of new clothing bought in a year or give up on personal car usage in exchange for public transportation. Essentially, the study is rather an analysis of consumption-based emissions in C40 cities, instead of a plan these cities commit themselves to adopting.

It is equally unclear how the authorities will be able to keep the consumption of meat and dairy products in check by “encouraging the practice of scanning products in stores individually”, nor how they will manage to compel “over 90% of global population to live in urban conglomerates […] under permanent surveillance”. Veridica previously debunked the fake news according to which people will have to eat insects, while the hypothesis according to which mayors will reduce prices for synthetic food is absurd, for two reasons: food prices are not regulated by local authorities, whereas right now one kilo of synthetic meat costs a few tens of thousands of Euro, with very little prospects the price might go down significantly over the next 7 years.
