Residents of the southern regions of Ukraine, liberated from the nationalists, admitted that they want these territories to become part of Russia as soon as possible, according to Russian media. The narrative is not based on facts and is based only on Russian military propaganda.
NEWS: Residents of the southern regions of Ukraine, liberated from the nationalists, admitted that they want these territories to become part of Russia as soon as possible. Oleg Kryuchkov, adviser to the head of Crimea on information policy, said this in an interview with RIA Novosti. According to him, people are afraid of the return of the nationalists and want to know their future status. Kryuchkov made such a statement after a visit to the city of Berdyansk, Zaporozhye region. Now it is under the control of the Russian military.
[…] “People are asking to quickly resolve the issue of joining the liberated territories into Russia. They say they want to return to Russia,” says an adviser to the head of the region.
Earlier, residents of the Zaporozhye region requested temporary accession to the DPR. On February 17, the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics announced an aggravation of the situation. The republics announced the evacuation of civilians.
NARRATIVE: Residents of the southern regions of Ukraine are afraid of the return of nationalists and want these territories to become part of Russia as soon as possible.
CONTEXT: Since February 24, hostilities have been going on in southern Ukraine. Moscow has faced fierce resistance from Ukrainian military and civilians who do not want to live under foreign occupation. For this reason, Russia has tried to intimidate the local intellectual and political elite by launching false narratives about the desire of "liberated" Ukrainians to join Russia. Veridica has already refuted the propaganda version, according to which the inhabitants of Zaporizhzhia applied for joining the Donetsk People's Republic.
PURPOSE: To convince the Russian public that the "special operation" is successful, referring to the fabricated wishes of the inhabitants of Ukraine to be protected from Ukrainian nationalists and annexed to the Russian Federation.
WHY THE NARRATIVE IS FAKE: Neither the press nor the representative of the Russian authorities in the annexed Crimea provide any evidence when they report the desire of the inhabitants of southern Ukraine to join Russia territorially. On the contrary, residents of Melitopol, Berdyansk, Kherson and other cities in southern Ukraine took to the streets to protest after they were occupied by Russia, and Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his speeches referred to the "feats of recalcitrant Ukrainians." Civilians stopped Russian tanks and armored vehicles with their bare hands, and directors of schools and enterprises refused to obey the orders of the occupation regime.
The statement by Oleg Kryuchkov, adviser to the head of Crimea on information policy, actually prepares Russian public opinion for an escalation of the conflict. Thus, false justifications are created for a new wave of offensive, referred to by the Kremlin as a “special operation to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine.” Attempts are also being made to convince the Russian public that the “special operation” is successful and supported by the Ukrainians.
